The Gang finally made it to the Narek opening after a (lucky, as it turned out) aborted start…the steed had developed mechanical problems and we’d quite resigned ourselves to having to forego the Friday launch (Pa was charging over the hill like the cavalry, but not until Saturday morning)…when, lo and behold, we discovered on the Saturday morning that we had the wrong day in any case…so we had a win-win-win; car fixed and exhibition and Pa for the long weekend. Perfeck.

Anyhoo, nice show – Wendy Fairclough’s (signature) groupings of domestic vessels, Elizabeth Kelly’s (relatively new) ‘urban clusters’, and Mel Douglas’s (scaled down – perhaps domesticated?) engraved pieces. We’ve long been a fan of Wendy’s work (she should have taken out the Ranamok way before now) so it was nice to actually meet her in person. Liz was looking well, and is gearing up for a stretch down in Tassie again. And Little Mel was still in Canberra, nose to the grind.

There was a fair turnout of both local and Canberra peeps and a spate of red stickers, so one presumes that the financial-doom-‘n-glooms haven’t discouraged the art market…yet. Fingers crossed it won’t crunch too significantly.
