Freeway art we finally do like…

20 05 2010

Wow, we love this latest work of Wazza’s – unveiled earlier this week in Sydney. Fabulous.

Check it out in all its glory at artdaily.

Hope the smoke stack at the Canberra Glassworks, being officially launched tomorrow night, is as cool…

Ooh, err…

Warren Langley’s Mapping the Molonglo 2

Last week the Gang and La Gropp enjoyed a tour of the Molonglo Group’s fabulous revamp of the old Acton Hotel precinct – and, more specifically, Warren Langley’s quite spectacular sculpture installation, which straddles the foyer of 21-23 Marcus Clarke Street.

The piece, Mapping the Molonglo 2, is in fact a compilation of four separate sculptures (Exterior red tree sculpture, Interior blue tubes sculpture, Interior river light projection, and Exterior river light projection) and it’s very, very cool – to say the least.

But, of course, the entire development is seriously cool – which is hardly surprising given that Fender Katsalidis are the architects and that Molonglo Group’s Nectar Efkarpidis and his arts advisor Pamille Berg established an extensive arts brief from the get-go. We took a few snaps, but will go back from time to time for more…artworks are still being installed as we speak and there’s a fabulous Neil Roberts’ piece, just along from Wocker’s, that we forgot to get on the night…

We’ve definitely found a new place to hang. The old Acton has already re-opened as the 5-star boutique Diamant Hotel: great interior design (by SJB Interiors) with a moody, almost film noir colour scheme (oh-so-Melbourne, darlings, we do love that); schmicko looking restaurants; a bar run by the Nightsbridge mob. And artwork blooming everywhere. What more could we possibly ask for?
