Tom and Edward at Ivy Hill…

We’re über selective about where and with whom we spend our time these days but something we wouldn’t miss for quids is a Tom Bosman exhibition. We love his work, big time – and last night he was opening at Ivy Hill, in tandem with Edward Willson (bonus!!)

We caught up with dear Tom and Wilma…

…and Karen and Suzie…

…and three of our favourite fellas; Andy, Edward and Harry…

…and lots more lovelies, besides.

And then there was the art…

(…mea culpa, honeys, didn’t get the title – but presumably somewhere in the Bega Valley…)

…and some of Edward’s work.

Fabbo! Check out the Ivy Hill website here.

The show is on until the 7th June. Treat yourselves.

Don’t spare the horses…

The Gang galloped up and over Dr George Mountain tonight for Ivy Hill’s latest expo  featuring Shunyam Smith, Tim Bass, Suzie Bleach and Andy Townsend. Great show.

But we have to confess that we’re total Suzie and Andy tragics and so they were, naturally, our particular focus (which is no reflection whatsoever on Shuny and Tim – plenty to like in their work, too.)

Anyways, just explaining why we opted for one snap only…

Too, too good.

Get there if you can, worth the canter.

Kicking off the cultural rounds in 2012…

It was that time of year again; the cultural launch of the year at Ivy Hill and Narek…and, of course, that great Wapengo summer delight, Artie’s b’day partay. We literally sprinted through the galleries, we must confess, and it was essentially a social evening (the tail-end of our silly season, actually.)

Shockingly lazy of us, we know. But we were, essentially, still on holz.

So apologies to the artists (whose work we do admire greatly, and it was particularly wonderful to catch up with Beth) but for further edification you’ll have to go here and here.

We did the rounds and then bolted straight back to Artie’s for a serious fall-about…and completely ran out of snapping verve at the party itself – simply not enough hands to cope with more than the wining and dining (it’s always such a grande bouffe, as you know) –  so no discriminating photos this year. Which no doubt will come as a great relief to the general throng. But we can reveal that it was, as ever, a most enjoyable night; we slept it off in the boat shed, broke the fast en plein air and wandered across to Paradise before rounding off the day with fush’n’chups at Bermi (no room, alas, for gelato.) Same old, same old.

Early snaps here.

Ivy Hill opening…

The Gang was at the Ivy Hill opening on Saturday evening, along with what seemed to be the entire population of Tanja/Wapengo…

Plenty of goodies on offer.

[Luckily the Gang’s favourite work in the show was already sold, so we didn’t have to go through the excrutiating will we/won’t weez – especially as we now view everything in terms of the percentage of an airfare to Myanmar!!   n(Ed)]

Sculpture on the Edge 2011…

We’re going to fast track through the kultural happenings of a fortnight ago. The Gang had decided to sandwich the Sculpture on the Edge and Ivy Hill openings into a convenient overnighter at Paradise, camping with Granny and the mob (Minnie, Harijs, Clairie, Keithie, Marcus, Trish & Artie.)

Blustery weather at Bermi discouraged lingering, turning the Friday evening event into a fast trot. There was the inevitable Ned…

…an astonishing horsey piece…

…3D rendered 2D by Trev and Dinah…

…and much more besides.

We didn’t get down to the flat (where Suzi and Andy’s camel was) or to the small sculpture show in the Hall – too busy doing the quick press of the flesh in the lee of the wind… And then fush’n chups called. We’d arrived too late for gelati (the price of being the passenger, alas) so it was an evening of fleeting regrets all round.

There followed a lovely night of chat and beverage around the campfire, a Keithie brekky…

…lots of things uniquely Wapengo…

…including a swim followed by a nice long walk and a late’n lazy lunch of Cobargo snags. Noice.

We then managed to stuff up somewhat with the Ivy Hill opening – arriving a good hour and a half before the punters…

Ah well. We did a quick round regardless – sweet show, and on for another week for those in the vicinity.

We arrived back at the hideout much earlier than expected, only to find the Wyndham version of dog day afternoon…

Gotta love ’em.

Other things wot caught our eye here.

Open season on Coastal Culture…

Last weekend marked the opening of the gallery season at Tanja, following the long winter recess.

Both Narek and Ivy Hill must have had a premonition about the Take-2-Grand-Final, because they didn’t kick-off until after 5pm – and we were able to listen to the last of the Pies triumphant win on the way over…

At Narek, Janet Deboos was just scratching the surface of her new decorative diversion (we dig the seventies/marimekko slant)…

…and we’re always up for a surprise. This new Chinese series has undeniable charm.

And how fabbo to see Jo sporting a new baby bump!!

Over at Ivy Hill Carolyn was showcasing a trifecta; Andre Hiep, Carmen Ky and Tracy Luff.

We particularly liked Andre’s work…

…and before you trot out those predictable rumblings à la Rosalie, we’d like to point out that it ain’t necessarily so. These sweet assemblages are resurrected ceiling boards from Spiral Gallery apparently, and are a clear continuum of Andre’s painting practice.

The pick of the lovely peeps here.
