Opening tomorrow at the BVRG…

8 03 2012

Tomorrow, rising floodwaters notwithstanding, Matt Jones’ exhibition at the BVRG will be launched. Punters may be deterred by the inclement conditions, but we figure the faithful will make the effort regardless. Well, Megsie and Matt will be there, at any rate…

Matt spent yesterday arvo applying the finishing touches…

…noice.

FSCLAP…and the winner is…Tanja Riese!!

13 07 2008

Last Friday evening the recipient of the 2009 Far South Coast Living Artist Project Scholarship was awarded the gong by Acting General Manager of the Bega Valley Shire Council, Leanne Barnes, at a reception at the Bega Regional Gallery. And the winner was printmedia artist Tanja Riese (no great surprise there, of course, her work’s fantastic – it’s that dark romanticism we get off on…)

The scholarship, worth in the vicinity of $35,000, affords a regional artist one year of full time practice (with additional mentoring, educational and marketing support from a willing network of local professionals in the field.) The two other finalists, Craig Cameron and Matthew Jones, were presented with a consolation ‘”drown your sorrows” gift pack from Committee member Prue Acton (presumably a bottle of plonk), heaped with high praise and encouraged to re-apply for the next round (it’s a biannual affair.)

…Craig Cameron’s video piece (which gave us an eek! moment because we’ve fallen off the diet wagon again – how did he know!?!)

And at long last we’ve run that crazy sheila Sharon Cornthwaite to ground! We’ve been keeping a weather eye out for ages – knowing she’d moved somewhere nearby (Bournda) – and, finally, there she was!! It was only a matter of time, mind you; we’d already clocked her name on a program of upcoming events (she’s giving a jewellery workshop at the end of July and an artist talk later in the year.) Anyhoo, the big news is she’s bought a little cottage in Gipps St, Bega, and turned it into a studio – so we’ll have to go check it out and take some snaps next time we’re in town…

Curious sight #1 at the Candelo Market…

6 03 2008

i-spy.jpgraffle-biz.jpg

There we were, waiting patiently while Ginger lined up for some of those tasty little Dutch pancakes…when out of the corner of our eye we spotted…what!?…Klaus Moje glass!..at the Candelo market!!?

But of course it was only the raffle banner for the upcoming FSCLAP (Far South Coast living Artist Project) Art Auction – to be held at the Tathra Primary School on the 8th June.

And what a doozie – this 44 x 44 cm beauty (valued between $15,000 to $20,000) could be yours for the price of a mere $50 raffle ticket – and with tickets limited to just 200, the odds ain’t bad.

As a matter of fact – at the Narek opening the other night – somebody pointed out that a canny collector should have snapped up the lot and scored themselves one serious bargain.

But, of course, that would have put a total dampener on all the fun…
