We didn’t end up with many snaps – too busy chatting – but the evening was the usual crowd pleaser. Being the biannual social highlight of the shire makes for a very long wait between excitements…but it’s all the better for it, we reckon.

Everybody had their own pick for the winner’s podium, and it’s a bit like the Melbourne Cup – just about any of the 35 strong final field was in with a serious chance. Was there a sentimental leaning courtesy of the amping hysteria surrounding the 100th anniversary of Gallipoli? Very likely. But art does, after all, reflect the social climes of the day and Shaun Gladwell has certainly plugged into a current (and growing) national obsession.
