…Your roving reporters went down to the Bermi wharf on Monday 19th Jan to see the Earthrace. This very funky looking bio-fuelled powerboat is on its way back to New Zealand after a record breaking circumnavigation of the globe. Just under 61 days with no carbon footprint. It is capable of speeds up to 40 knots and can submarine through 7 metres of swell. The crew, under skipper Paul Bethune, call themselves eco-warriors. They were in stark contrast to the opposite end of the wharf where the crew of the ‘Sea Angel’ was unloading a catch of striped marlin.

The irony’s not lost on us darlings. It’s a visual essay unto itself.
