Oh, the humanity…

Bob and Joy just sent through the following…

earthrace

…Your roving reporters went down to the Bermi wharf on Monday 19th Jan to see the Earthrace. This very funky looking bio-fuelled powerboat is on its way back to New Zealand after a record breaking circumnavigation of the globe. Just under 61 days with no carbon footprint. It is capable of speeds up to 40 knots and can submarine through 7 metres of swell. The crew, under skipper Paul Bethune, call themselves eco-warriors. They were in stark contrast to the opposite end of the wharf where the crew of the ‘Sea Angel’ was unloading a catch of striped marlin.

marlin

The irony’s not lost on us darlings. It’s a visual essay unto itself.

[Nonetheless – in the interest of full disclosure – marlin is very high on the Gang’s list of fave eating fush.  n(Ed)]

Snappo…

Lovely return from Nigel, in response to Vlad’s little daub…

…Want to add this image by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres? What an astonishing simultaneously languid and worshipful pose by the creature on the left! And then there’s the work itself…(see comment in previous post.)

Noice work, Nige.

We have ways of making you pay, comrade…

putin-2

Loved this bit of news from artdaily.com.  Vladmir Putin’s sketch fetched $1.15 million at a charity auction in St Petersburg. Now there’s an artist you wouldn’t cut from an exhibition selection – well, not in Russia anyhoo.

[Wonder if he lifted those red pins from the war room?  n(Ed)]

Shades of Chopper Read, no?  – where the Melbourne critics dared give nothing but the thumbs up!!

Glass spotto…

Spotted on artdaily.com, three from our all-time faves list…

de-la-torre

Einar and Jamex de la Torre, Narcochic, blown glass, mixed media

and…

bitter-suite  tim-horn

…a couple of shots from Tim Horn’s Bitter Suite show. (Hadn’t seen the progress shot of the carriage’s interior before…)

We have to get our glass jollies where we can au moment, sigh.

Bob Georgeson wins SEMAG show…

Bob Georgeson took out the prize in SEMAG’s On the Edge: towards postmodernism with his photo montage piece, Love Glove.

bob-georgeson

Megsie only managed to get about four shots off on the night, period – just post the speech and announcement of the winner and highly commendables. So at this juncture we can only show a couple of crowd shots of the night – if only to mark the occasion at least. The good news is that Christian was snapping away on the Gallery’s behalf, so we’ll be able to upload a more substantial coverage later in the week…

Post Script: Joy sent through some more pics last night…

Disorder in the House…

But still on track for SEMAG’s (South East Modern Art Group) exhibition On the Edge: towards Postmodernism…

council-chambers

With the Gallery in total disarray this week (still a construction site) the Council Chambers became both the repository for incoming artwork and the venue for the programmed Curator’s Talk…

malcolm-king

SEMAG’s guest curator/judge, Milton artist-gallerist  Malcolm King, ran all the participants through the hoops…

              semag-meeting

…which in itself proved quite confronting for many…

attentive-artists

…and the next chapter in the drama will unfold tonight, when the show opens at 6pm…

As for that question on everybody’s lips – “But will the Gallery be ready?”…

You betcha!

Exhibition of Erotic Art coming soon (no pun intended)…

We’ve just received an email from Wolfgang’s Gallery in Cobargo calling for entries for an Exhibition of Erotic Art. It opens this coming Valentine’s Day (Feb 14th) and will happily coincide with the Cobargo Folk Festival (the following weekend.)

Sounds very cool.  Anybody who feels that they have work befitting the criteria should go here.

And yes, the Gang may well enter the infamous ‘trophy piece’…

Arty’s birthday…

This time of year, in our neck of the woods, it’s all about Arty’s birthday bash…

                            artus

…great food, great company, great vino, great spot…(Wapengo.)

In a way it’s kinda sad because it marks the end of the silly season – most folks have to drag themselves back to work immediately hereafter – but it’s a highlight on the holiday social calendar and not the least ‘cos it’s an unpretentious, neighbourly affair…

It’s lotsa fun; we all get schnickered (some a little more than others, heh, heh…), we dance to the Duelling-DJ Piekalns Brothers…

                          party-bros

…and somewhere along the line we eventually wake up in paradise; in Arty’s boatshed on the lake…

next-morning

                           good-morning2

It’s a truly bewdiful thing. We shan’t carry on too much – we’ll let the snaps do all the talking…for more of a perv go here.

Thanks, Arty, for a great arvo/night/morning…

Gallery refurb…

It’s been an interesting start for Megsie at the Bega Regional Gallery…

Ah the glamorous life of the curator, eh!!
